FRIENDS Where They Live “Happily Ever After” By Brenda Neiffer |
| Last year, over five million homeless, abused and abandoned animals were destroyed in shelters and humane societies in the United States. Four members of Kitty Keepers, recently attended the 6th annual “No-Kill Conference” for animals. Micki Jimison, Brenda Neiffer, Sue Markley and Penney Bergren traveled to Tucson, Arizona along with 800 attendees from the United States, England and China to attend this national event on September 14th through 17th. This collaborative effort of animal welfare organizations believe that by working together, an end can be brought to the killing of homeless pets within the next 10 years. |
| The Kitty Keepers’ were also able to tour Best Friends, the nation’s largest sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals, located in Kanab, Utah near the Grand Canyon. This 3,000 acre sanctuary is home to no fewer than 1,800 dogs, cats and other formerly unwanted or abused animals. Best Friends staff and volunteers make sure that these animals will never again be hungry, sick, alone or in pain. Animals that are brought to the sanctuary go to carefully chosen homes with loving families. But there are hundreds more that will never find homes: outcast, unwanted, lame, handicapped, ill or too traumatized by past abuses. Best Friends commitment to never kill the animals in their care assures these innocent creatures will have a very special home and haven for the rest of their lives. |
The trip provided valuable ideas and contacts to those from Kitty Keepers who help in the daily operation of our local no-kill sanctuary. For anyone who would like to help on a local level Kitty Keepers currently consists of 30+ volunteers committed to the belief that “Death Is Not The Solution”. They would greatly appreciate any monetary donation or supplies to ensure the ongoing success of the sanctuary. Kitty Keepers can be reached at (406) 262-2279 or donations can be dropped off at 600 23rd Avenue West in Havre. Your support is needed to fulfill the mission to bring about a time when abused and abandoned cats will no longer be destroyed in our community. |
